The thousand year reign

In Revelation 20: 1-6 the word ‘millennium’ is mentioned 6 times. It is repeated 6x so we better listen. When our parents tell us something 3x we better listen and obey, it must be serious. I believe in a literal 1000 years. God is serious about this matter. The word millennium comes from a Latin words ‘milli’ which means one thousand and the ‘annum’ means years. Therefore if you put them together it is “one thousand years.” Some theologians and preachers I know just say “a long period of time, may be shorter than a thousand years or longer.” Some however, are “A-millennialist”-this simply means that there is no literal 1000 years. The prefix “A” negates the meaning of the word. It means ‘without’ or ‘nothing.’ They say this “1000” is just symbolic. They suggest that the events described in Rev.20:1-10 are taking place now, and that these are gradually being fulfilled since the birth of the church. There is another group who are called “Post-millennialist” The prefix ‘post’ means ‘after.’ They believe that Christ’s second coming will take place after the millennium. I used to believe this too. But after studying and immersing myself on this issue I have changed camp. I am now a Pre-millennialist. Some people are just sitting on the fence, not making a stand in what they believe. If Martin Luther did not say against Rome “Here, I Stand” where would Christianity be today? Luther’s “stand” started like a spark, but it became a big fire that swept across continental Europe, and impacted us today. Everyone who studies history knows about it. Now going back to our topic. Rev.20:1-6 gives us a description of the rule and reign of Christ on earth. After the 7 years of Tribulation, He will come down with His saints and establish His kingdom. He will rule as King, literally, He is King of kings and Lord of lords. Jerusalem will be the world’s capital city. The believers who returned with Him from heaven for the Battle of Armageddon will rule and reign with Him during the millennium. We will be given some responsibilities. There will be complete peace and righteousness. Satan the enemy will be bound in the bottomless pit for a thousand years. There will be prosperity. The knowledge of the Lord will fill the earth.

Who are eligible to enter the millennial kingdom? Only those who are washed by the blood of the Lamb-our loving Saviour Jesus Christ. Why not believe, repent of your sins, and accept Him as your personal Saviour and Lord of your life now. Tomorrow, may be too late. It is a gift, all because of His grace. Please consider Him!
