God's Masterpiece: The Beauty and the Best - Part 2

I would like to discuss to some degree about the notion, ‘knowledge of God,’ because this is the heartbeat of the believer’s faith and life. The possibility of knowing God has been ignored or even denied by other world belief systems. While it is true to say that it is impossible for us to fully comprehend God, it does not necessarily mean that it is impossible for us to have no knowledge of Him. To a large degree we can know Him, and this knowledge that we have received are nevertheless true and real. How is this possible? It is possible because God made the first move. He revealed Himself to us through His creation which we call natural revelation; special revelation (the Bible ), and the person of Jesus. Without God’s initiative and by our own human resources alone it is impossible to know God or discover Him. God revealed Himself in creation.

Let us take for instance Psalms 8:3”When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,

The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,

What is man that You are mindful of him,

And the son of man that You visit[a] him?

For You have made him a little lower than [b]the angels”

R.C. Sproul says, this is “not the sentiments of professional or a primitive astrologer…this is a reflection of an ordinary person who was contemplating his small place in a vast universe. He didn’t know that light travels 186,000 mile per second and that it would take 4 and half years for light to travel from the nearest star to earth…when we consider that our planet is 25 thousand miles in circumference and that light can go around the world seven and half times in a single second, we are reduce to sheer astonishment.”

Indeed the Psalmist is overwhelmed by his ‘littleness’ in contrast to the magnificence and vastness of the heavens. Thus he asked the ultimate question about his own existence: “What is man that you are mindful of him?” Is the Psalmist expressing the significance of life on this earth and the value and dignity of human beings? Yes he did. In Genesis we are told that we are the crowning glory of God’s creation, for we are created in the image of God. I hope, as you read this, you will accept that you are very special to God. A middle age woman came to our house today and said to my wife and myself, “I’m ok, I am a child of God.” This confession speaks of security, dignity and true identity. God is mindful of us! Sometimes we have asked: Where is God when it hurts? He is always near. If you are a true believer He lives within your heart. You are the temple of the Holy Spirit. By His grace He will continue to sustain you. Our God is infinite and He is everlastingly gracious
